I have compiled a list of supplements that I discovered through my own journey, working with some of the most trusted & experienced practitioners and interaction with fellow patients on social media platforms. We spent thousands of dollars and many years trying to figure out what works best. You can read my story here.

The following supplements were the most recommended and the majority have been tried by us personally. I have categorised them for ease of reading.
Enzymes/Digestive Support
Broad Based Digestive Support
Digest Spectrum from Enzymedica is a unique combination of high-potency enzymes that provides specialized digestive support for individuals who experience intolerance to foods containing gluten, dairy, phenols, vegetables, and beans. After trying many other products such as No-Fenol, TriEnza (by Houston Enzymes), this particular product worked best for us. Note, both those products from Houston Enzymes are extremely popular as well and has worked well for others.
Especially at the initial stages, while your gut balance is being restored and rebuilt, it is important to supplement with enzymes so that the strain on the gut is reduced and to keep away from symptoms such as bloating, stomach cramps and inflammation. My kids still use this if they have a meal rich in dairy, gluten or sugars.
Fat Digestion Support
For those having a problem in digesting fats the Lipazyme by Houston Enzymes is an ideal support supplement. Lypazyme is a combination of 3 different lipase enzymes which help break down food triglycerides into short-chain fatty acids. Excellent for high-fat meals or when supplementing with fish oils and/or omega-3 products.
Histamine Support
Natural D-Hist is a wonderful product for those suffering with histamine intolerance. if you are planning to take a high histamine meal, this is an excellent supplement to contain possible symtpoms. It includes methyl donor N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine and antioxidant Quercetin. Together with Vitamin C, its blend is ideal for histamine intolerance sufferers. There is also a junior version ideal for young children with histamine intolerance

Gut Healing
L-Glutamine
L-Glutamine is an amino acid that supports a healthy intestinal lining and immune function, L-Glutamine helps heal a leaky gut, improves brain health, encourages healthy muscle growth, increases immune system health and helps reduce inflammation. When my children were at a really bad stage with inflammation, this product worked well to heal it. I would only use it temporarily.
GI-Encap
GI Encap by Thorne Research supports the health of the esophagus and stomach. Its mucilaginous botanical ingredients soothe the mucous membranes of the GI tract. GI-Encap contains slippery elm bark (Ulmus rubra) and marshmallow root (Althea officinalis), both of which contain mucilaginous components that can soothe the digestive tract. Especially if you have an inflamed gut lining this product will give you relief. The capsules can be opened and mixed with warm water. Ideal to soothe children suffering from abdominal pain.
Vitamins and Minerals
Multi-Vitamin
Basic Nutrients from Thorne Research contains small easy to swallow tablets that contain all the essential nutrients. It can also be opened and added into food. It also contains the essential Vitamin B6 in the active form of P5P, B12, methlyfolate, copper, iron and zinc to support methylation and histamine intolerance. For those who have weak methylation, it is important to find a supplement that contains vitamins in an easy to absorb form. This product was a real lifesaver for us and highly recommended by many practitioners

Vitamin C (Calcium Ascorbate) Powder
Vitamin C is one of the essential nutrients needed for optimum immune function and also acts as an anti-histamine. It is a water-soluble vitamin. It helps reduce the severity and duration of symptoms of the common cold. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which helps to increase iron absorption from foods. This product supplies Calcium Ascorbate C is a buffered form of Vitamin C that is bioavailable and non-acidic. It is ideal for people who are unable to take vitamin C supplements derived from citrus (as many of them are)
Cod Liver Oil (Vitamin A & D) Omega 3 Supplement
Carlson Cod Liver Oil (unflavoured) comes from the livers of fresh cod fish found in the arctic ocean waters of Norway. It is bottled in Norway and is one of the only omega 3 supplements that does not use chemicals to extract the oil from the liver tissues. It contains pure cod liver oil without any added flavours. It is less fermented making it an ideal omega 3 supplement for histamine intolerant children. To ensure the freshness of the oil, the air inside the bottle is replaced with nitrogen. It contains vitamin A and D. It also contains vitamin E to preserve its freshness. It is also free from detrimental levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCBs and 28 other contaminants.
This is the only cod liver oil that my kids could tolerate without getting their histamine bucket overloaded.
Magnesium Bisglycinate
Magnesium Bisglycinate fromKirkman Labs is a vital nutrient for regulating many body processes including histamine metabolism. Also a lack of magnesium leads to reduced DAO activity (which is the main enzyme required for histamine metabolism). This mineral also supports the making of protein, bone, and DNA. Magnesium Bisglycinate also known as Magnesium glycinate is the best-absorbed form of magnesium and the most gentle on the stomach, especially for kids.
Methylation/Detoxification Support
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic sulfur compound that’s naturally derived during the earth’s rain cycle. Doctor’s Best MSM with OptiMSM contains a high quality purified MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) backed by numerous clinical studies for safety and efficacy. MSM helps support joint comfort and mobility, support healthy immune response, support antioxidant defense, support overall health for hair, skin, and nails and It is methyl donor that helps with detoxifying the body.
Liposomal Glutathione
Glutathione is a sulfur-containing peptide made up of three amino acids: Glutamic acid, Cysteine and Glycine. It is an important water-soluble antioxidant that plays a role in protecting the body from free radical oxidative stress. It also acts in amino acid transport and detoxification pathways.
Quercetin
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid and antioxidant. The MRM quercetin has no citrus and is sourced from the plant Dimorphandra Mollis. It contains QU995 the World’s Purest Quercetin. It is a mast cell stabiliser and it also supports prostate & kidney health as well as immune and cardiovascular health. Note: If you have a CBS gene mutation, I would suggest not to consume this.
Calcium D-Glucarate
Calcium D-Glucarate is the calcium form of D-glucaric acid. Calcium D-Glucarate can facilitate complete detoxification and elimination of certain metabolic waste products and environmental compounds from the body. It is an ideal support supplement for those with salicylate sensitivity and high levels of bilirubin.
Toxaprevent
Toxaprevent is an amazing product made with zeolite – (a natural mineral) that has the ability to absorb toxins, chemicals and heavy metals from your body. It can be used to absorb histamine as well and get relief from many gastrointestinal problems. This has been a real lifesaver for me. After I started with Toxaprevent, my kids immediatly stopped showing all major symptoms and things got under control. I would use this as a temporary solution until the underlying root cause is resolved or when taking a high histamine/salicylate meal

Probiotics
Histamin X
ProBiota HistaminX contains probiotic species that do not increase histamine in the gut. The histamine-friendly species included in this formula are delivered in a delayed release (acid resistant) capsule to ensure that the probiotics are delivered intact to the lower digestive tract. This formula helps to support the body’s microbiome and healthy digestion, and may help support healthy metabolism of ingested histamine.
D-Lactate Free Custom Probiotics
Children in the Autism spectrum have high D-Lactate in their system, that can cause some neurological issues. The D-Lactate free probiotic strains is a safer formula. The majority of Autistic children have gut flora imbalances and toxicities. Since there is a gut-brain relationship, normalizing the gut flora have a direct effect on their cognitive abilities, eye contact, behavior, stool, and agitation. This is a great probiotic for children who have salicylate intolerance. The strains in this probiotic are also known to reduce histamine in the body.
My daughter could not take any other forms of probiotics as she had build up of d-lactate and felt uncomfortable/had stomach aches often. I strongly recommend this if you have tried all other forms of probiotics and had not worked. The high price tag was worth it for us.
Dysbiosis/Microbiome Support
Biocidin Liquid
Biocidin is a combination of herbal medicines that supports the microbiome balance for healthy digestion and elimination of bad gut bacteria and pathogens. I initially used this when I realised by daughter had dysbiosis through CDSA (one of my recommended functional tests)
I always keep this handy at home and use it whenever my kids have any indigestion or any form of dysbiosis. It really works wonders!

Rice Protein Powder
