The camel known as the “Ship of the desert” is an animal that has been used by man for thousands of years. Want to know more about the healing with camel milk?

I first heard of this milk alternative through a Facebook forum and was eager to do some research to see how it will benefit my children.

I was surprised to find out that Camel milk in recent times has been named as the “The health drink of the future” and many companies in US and Australia are investing in camel farms.

What is so Special about Camel Milk?

Full of nutrition, camel milk is an exceptional alternative to standard dairy products as it is high in protein and contains large quantities of Vitamin C, antioxidants, minerals and lower fat than cow milk. This makes it a healthier milk alternative for babies as well as for growing children.

Along with having nutrients like vitamin E and C, zinc, and selenium, a single cup of camel milk also contains:

  • 10% DV of protein
  • 11% DV of potassium
  • 15% DV of phosphorus
  • 30% DV of calcium
  • 70% DV of vitamin

Healing with Camel Milk

Camel milk has been used for centuries as a medicinal drink in Middle Eastern, Asian, and African cultures. It has shown to have benefits for children with Autism, Diabetes, Dysbiosis (Bacterial imbalance), Gastrointestinal problems, Allergies, Autoimmune diseases as well as Skin problems.

Boosts immune system

Like human breast milk, camel milk contains high levels of the infection-fighting enzymes lysozyme and lactoperoxidase as well as the immune stimulating immunoglobulin A. These factors are complemented by several anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral substances.

Children with autoimmune system disorders, such as Crohn’s disease have immune systems that attack their own body tissues. Camel milk benefits these disorders by helping to boost their immune system.

Controls diabetes in children

Camel milk is a rich source of insulin. Thus, making it a potential treatment as well as a prevention option for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Children with type 1 diabetes can consume camel milk instead of cow milk, goats milk or buffalo milk. A one year study on patients suffering from type 1 diabetes showed that consuming camel milk can reduce the incidence of insulin dosage required in long-term management.

Helps cure food sensitivities/allergy

Many children who are intolerant or allergic to cows milk have been successfully able to drink camel milk. Camel milk lacks the A1 casein protein and lactoglobulin in cow’s milk, which often causes allergic reactions. Therefore, camel milk is a possible alternative for people with dairy allergies.

Camel milk is also thought to be an effective treatment for those suffering from food allergies, due to its immune boosting effect. In 2005 the Israel Medical Association observed children with severe allergies, who didn’t respond to other treatments. It listed astounding results where all of the children in the study recovered from their allergies after drinking camel milk. The researchers claimed it was more effective than standard medical treatments.

Helps cure dysbiosis

Dysbiosis means the imbalance between beneficial and harmful species of bacteria in the gut. Some children are prone to Dysbiosis especially after a course of antibiotics. Many people are consuming raw camel milk to heal their children’s SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and dysbiosis. Raw camel milk is an excellent source of beneficial probiotics. Raw camel milk contains over 120 strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) that are both beneficial to the gut and have remarkable antimicrobial properties.

Manages autism

Parents are utilizing camel milk on their children with autism and reporting improvements in symptoms such as better sleep, increased motor planning, and spatial awareness increased eye contact and better speech. There are several parents who have reported wonderful progress of their autistic children whilst on came milk.

In April of 2014, Paediatric Research published the results of a two-week study on children with autism who were given camel milk. Researchers noted significant improvements in autism severity.

Extensive studies have demonstrated that oxidative stress plays a vital role in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A study was done to evaluate the effect of camel milk consumption on oxidative stress biomarkers in autistic children, by measuring the plasma levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and myeloperoxidase before and 2 weeks after camel milk consumption. The finding showed that camel milk did play an important role in decreasing oxidative stress.

The effect of camel milk consumption on autistic behaviour was documented through significant improved changes in the  Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS).

Promotes brain development

Unlike cow milk or buffalo milk, camel milk contains less fat. Even this fat consists of fewer short-chained fatty acids and high concentrations of volatile acids such as linoleic and polyunsaturated fats. These are especially helpful for the growth of brain cells.

Usage in skin care products

Many companies are now producing skin care products from camel milk.  Camel milk creams are absorbed quickly through the skin, leaving little residue, ensuring that the natural Vitamin C, fatty acids and protective proteins in the milk go deep into the skin. Camel milk baby soaps have reportedly help with eczema and are gentle on children’s skin. Check out some of the high-quality skin care products here

I personally saw many benefits from Raw Camel milk. Including controlling my son’s histamine issues and my daughter’s dysbiosis. My daughter could not consume any other source of milk without constipating her. Camel milk was the only milk that was gentle on her tummy and did not give her gut issues.

There is a great Facebook page called “Healing with camel milk” that gives a great insight on this superfood with many mothers seeing many improvements in their children.
